I ended up getting off at about 10, too, so it wasn't too bad. i worked about 4.5 hours. And, yes I was on my feet the whole time up at the front hostess stand, and walking around. That was tiring, but when it was busy I didn't notice. My trainer was really nice; she was actually a high school senior, but had been working at Sophia's for a few months already. It was slow at first, so she just told me about stuff, but as the evening went on, it got busier, and I learned more just by having to actually do it hands-on.
So, I've been describing the shift to people saying that it's like Grey's Anatomy (basically, on that show, they never have a normal patient-broken arm, etc.-it's always some huge extravagant medical issue). what i mean is, at the end of the night, the manager, said to me-"wow you picked some night to train!! hardly any of the stuff that happened tonight is typical!" lots of unusual things happened, i guess. the strange things include: 1) two servers broke glasses -apparently that doesn't' happen much there, 2) normally, a tuesday night is very slow, and i could've been off work at 8:30, but there was a mizzou game, so there was a big rush at 9 pm (two MU players even came for appetizers later!!), 3) a little kid threw up-gross! his dad picked him up and ran him out the front door with a little barfy trail following him-we didnt have to clean it up or anything though :), and 4) this is the big one- I FELL!!! lol yes, i fell on my first night!! lol. i wasn't hurt or anything, but i'm sure people laughed. i just got up and kept going, though, and later thought about how that was probably embarrassing-looking, lol!! as a hostess, i seat people at their table, then i left them at their table, and there was a huge olive oil spill on the floor and i totally went all the way down to my knees!!! i admit, i love watching people fall, lol. oh well, it wasn't too bad :)
So, that's the story so far, look for more, less exciting anecdotes from work hopefully soon!
LOL! Oh no! Way to get back up though, hahaha. I'll have to come visit you sometime! I've never been there, but heard it's really good.
LOL! I loved the comparison to Grey's! It is soooo true! I wonder how long the show could possibly last with all these crazy cases!
Thursday eppy totally made me cry at the end. I just LOVE Denny!!!! :( Maybe the next thing they'll do is a Ghost/Just Like Heaven/City of Angel affair for Izzie and Denny! ;)
:)
haha! I didn't know you fell! EVERYONE falls at work so don't feel bad! And oil is everyones enemy as well (don't get it on your clothes! it does not come out!) I hope you can start serving soon and making the big bucks! Theres way too many hostesses they need to move you all up!
That comment was from Jen Malle-not supposed to hbe anonymous haha!
