i had a wonderful three-week holiday back in the midwest. i got to spend lots of time with my family, extended family, and friends. there was a lot of laziness and food, as i'm sure many of you also experienced over the past month! it was the perfect amount of time to be home, but i was also excited to come back to la and hit the ground running. i have hope that 2008 will be a good year; they usually always are :)
so, let's see, what's new? i dove right back into work when i arrived, since i hadn't been on the job for 3 weeks. i definitely needed the income to start flowing again. it's a bit tight right now, but i have faith that God will provide! in fact, He already found perfect timing for my comedian friend to need a little online marketing help as a side job (another side job, yes, i know), which is great. i can work from home, and make a little extra money for the rent! since i have to drive so much already, this is a great deal, i think.
an updated on the acting career:
1) i think my episode of house is supposed to air one tuesday in january. fox keeps pushing it back, though, due to the strike situation, so i'm not sure. again, it's the Christmas episode, and i'm the receptionist (who may not even make the screen, but hey)
2)speaking of the strike--it's still going strong! i've heard lots of complaints from friends who are really missing their shows ;) so, i'm sure most of you know this. yes, there's not a whole lot filming (hence, i'm doing a lot of non-acting jobs at the moment). a big bummer, though, is that usually pilot season would be coming up soon, which has opportunities for newcomers. i was looking forward to that. they may still have it, depending on how long the strike lasts...we'll see.
3)i had a very interesting situation occur with applying for an acting gig on craigslist, and getting to go through the audition process. i'm still awaiting word on that, so i'm keeping it low key for now, but i'll be able to write more later. it's not necessarily a project i want to do, however, it would be amazing exposure, and a cool adventure, i'm sure. i've already tried to use the situation for a positive outcome, by using a potential role to attract agents. who knows what will come of it...
4) oh i almost forgot this one, and i'm so excited about it!!! this friday night, i am going to my first screening! it's for the horror film i did. ok, i know it's a student film and everything, so it's not going to be oscar-worthy or anything, lol, and it may just be shown on a 13inch black and white tv or something...:) but! it's being shown at warner brothers. i am so excited!!! i'll let you know how it goes, and hopefully when i get a copy i might even get to post it on here...check back.
this item of info is especially pertinent for those of you bsu'ers reading. we talked quite a bit about mosaic and erwin/alec mcmanus (a church and pastors) in college. i finally went to visit mosaic this sunday night. it was in this old theater called the mayan-and it was seriously intricately decorated like an ancient, mayan temple disney ride or something-so cool! besides that, however, the sermon was great--inspired by billboards seen in la, about human desperation, making choices, freedom in Christ, etc. so yeah, mosaic was pretty sweet!
lastly, last night, i watched "no country for old men." we had done scenes from it in my acting class, so i'd been wanting to see it, plus it had been getting a lot of talk in hollywood. my boss is a sag member, so he let me borrow the dvd screener he got of it (that and "into the wild," which i also want to see, has anyone seen it?). no country was very violent (i didn't really know what the plot was going into it), but surprisingly had some good dry humor interspersed in there. there's no music in the entire film, which makes for a different feel, and overall i think it's best described as very stark. i think that's to capture the same feel of the novel, from what i've heard. the acting was very good, i thought. my roommate said it best, that everything else was so simple (cinematography, lack of music, etc.) that the actors had nothing to hide behind, so they were forced to just produce really quality, raw acting. and they did, i think.
well, i have to say it's good to be back! i hope i have more exciting things to post about in the coming days. have a wonderful week, and keep in touch!
Into the Woods, like the musical?
If so, I own a copy of the VHS. It's one of my favorites. :)
Oooo... I didn't know there were any House episodes left. Definitely keep us informed.
oops..."into the wild" heehee :)
Let me just say that I LOVE when you put up new posts, by the way.
Sounds like you've been keeping busy! I want to see No Country for Old Men. And I also really want to visit Mosaic! It sounds very very cool. I love those brothers. :)
I miss you, and I hope that things keep looking up for you out there in the Sunshine!
